Women’s Golf Opens MAAC Championship in Third

Cantu leads SHU in fifth place

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team opened the three-day 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in third place after the first 18 holes at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Pioneers began the event with a team score of 304 (+16) to sit in third. Quinnipiac leads the way with a 295 (+7), while Siena is in second, one stroke ahead of SHU at 303 (+15). UAlbany (+18) in fourth and Merrimack (+21) and Fairfield (+21) round out the top five. Mount St. Mary's (+34) and Niagara (+36) complete the participants. 

Maite Cantu paces the Pioneers in fifth place. The first year carded a one-over 73 on the afternoon, tallying a pair of birdies along the way. 

Jessie Burch is not far behind in a tie for seventh, sitting at 75 (+3). Burch opened both nine's with a birdie, tying Cantu with two birdies. 

Maya Robilio and Nahia Paulerena are next on the leaderboard for the Pioneers in T17th and T20th, respectively. Robilio finished the day at 77 (+5) and Paulerena is at 79 (+7). Paulerena led the Pios on the day with four birdies. Jensie Nicholas rounded out SHU's golfers in 37th at 83 (+11). 

Sacred Heart hits the course again tomorrow morning for the second round of the MAAC Championship.
