PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team kicked off the Rutgers Invitational in seventh place after the first two rounds on Saturday, Apr. 5, at Rutgers' Golf Course in Piscataway, N.J.
The Pioneers own a team score of 626 (316-310) after 36 holes, with their 310 in round two ranking fifth in the field. SHU's team score of +58 is 11 strokes ahead of eighth-place Stonehill (+69) and one stroke shy of sixth-place FDU (+57). The Pios also lead Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes Fairfield (9th), Merrimack (12th) and Siena (14th), while trailing Quinnipiac in second.
Maya Robilio and
Nahia Paulerena pace the Pioneers after the first two rounds in T14th and T18th, respectively. Robilio has gone 75 (+4) and 78 (+7) for a combined score of 153 (+11). Paulerena carded identical rounds of 77 (+6) for a 12-over 154. Robilio holds a 4-2 lead in birdies so far in the tournament.
Maite Cantu,
Jessie Burch and
Jensie Nicholas round out SHU's five competitors in the tournament. Cantu is tied for 37th after rounds of 81 (+10) and 77 (+6) for a 158 (+16). Burch is next on the leaderboard at T48th with a 161 (83-78), while Nicholas is tied for 70th with a 166 (85-81).
The third and final round of the Rutgers Invitational will start tomorrow morning.
