REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – After the first two rounds of the Battle at the Creek tournament Monday, the Sacred Heart University women's golf team sits fourth. SHU is hosting the event at the Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
The Pios own a team score of 608 (+40) after rounds of 305 and 303. SHU trails Lehigh in third place by two strokes. Sacred Heart leads Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members Mount St. Mary's (+47), Fairfield (+52), Manhattan (+69) and Iona (+106). Bucknell tops the field at +24, while Columbia is second at +25.
Jessie Burch leads the 90-person field at even-par 142. Burch started her senior season with a 72 in round one before carding the lone under-par round of the event in the second round at 70. Burch capped her impressive day with four birdies and no bogies on the back nine of round two.
Maite Cantu is next on the leaderboard for SHU in a tie for 10th. A strong 72 in round one preceded a 78 in round two, giving her a 150 (+8) for the event.
Garance Gueubel and
Maegan Pungsuwan finished two strokes apart at 153 (+11) and 155 (+13), respectively. Gueubel is tied for 22nd and Pungsuwan is tied for 29th.
Jade Haylock,
Morgan Withington,
Lauren Ogrodowicz and
Nahia Paulerena rounded out SHU's competitors. Haylock (+19) and Withington (+19) are tied for 51st, while Ogrodowicz (+20) is tied for 57th and Paulerena (+22) is tied for 62nd.
The third and final round of the Battle at the Creek will take place tomorrow morning.
