WETHERSFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team opened the Ryan Lee Intercollegiate in fifth place after the first round on Monday at the Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Conn.

The Pioneers own a team score of 290 (+6) after the first 18 holes. The top half of the field sit very close, as third and eighth place are separated by just six strokes. Siena (+4) and LIU (+5) sit just in front of the Pios in third and fourth place, respectively. Rhode Island leads the field at 280 (-4). 

Pablo Lacayo and Yu Chan Ji Lim lead the way for SHU at one-over 72 for a tie for 13th place. Lacayo paced the team with three birdies, while Lim had one birdie to just two bogies. 

Quin Adams and Mike Rothberg are also tied after one round, sitting in 19th. Adams and Rothberg carded two-over scores of 73, both finishing with two birdies on the day. 

Jon Bushka rounded out SHU's competitors in T39th at 75 (+4). 

The Pioneers return to the Wethersfield Country Club tomorrow morning for the second and final round of the Ryan Lee Intercollegiate.
