Men’s Golf Places Eighth at Ryan Lee Intercollegiate

Rothberg carded a 70 today to finish tied for 11th

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. –  After 36 holes of golf at the Ryan Lee Intercollegiate, the Sacred Heart University men's golf team placed eighth in the 15-team field following Tuesday's action at the Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Conn.

The Pioneers finished with a team score of 588 (+20) to finish at the end of a congested middle pack. SHU was just nine strokes off tying fourth-place Villanova (+11). For the second straight tournament, the Pioneers saw the Rams of Rhode Island (-4) win the team prize. 

Mike Rothberg carded the best round today for Sacred Heart, posting a one-under 70 to finish with a score of 143 (+1) for the event. The Fairfield native, who finished in a tie for 11th, added four birdies to his tally, ending the event with six. 

Pablo Lacayo was right on Rothberg's tail in T17th with a final score of 145 (+3). The senior from Managua, Nicaragua, carded rounds of 72 and 73, finishing with six birdies in 36 holes. 

The next Pioneer on the scoreboard was Jon Bushka. The graduate transfer tied for 38th place with a combined score of 149 (+7) after rounds of 75 and 74. 

Quin Adams (+12) and Yu Chan Ji Lim (+13) rounded out SHU's golfers at the event in T56th and T59th, respectively. 

The Pioneers hit the road again for the UConn Invitational on Sept. 28-30 at the GreatHorse Golf Club in Hampden, Mass.
