Women’s Golf Victorious in SHU Fall Classic

Cantu led SHU in second place
MILFORD, Conn. – After 54 holes of play at the SHU Fall Classic, the Sacred Heart University women's golf team earned a win in a 15-team field, as play wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at Great River Golf Club.
SHU led after every round, finishing with a combined score of 917 (+53). The Pios tallied rounds of 303, 305 and 309 to clear the field by 15 strokes. Fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) school Merrimack finished second at +68.
Maite Cantu led the way for SHU in second place, tallying a final score of 222 (+6). The sophomore was very consistent with rounds of 74, 73 and 75. The Mexico City native tallied seven birdies over the 54 holes.
Jade Haylock and Nahia Paulerena were next on the team in T6th. The duo carded scores of 229 (+13), as Haylock went 74, 80 and 75 and Paulerena was 74, 76 and 79.
Next on the scoreboard for SHU was Garance Gueubel in T9th, just ahead of her teammates Jessie Burch and Shirley Ye, T14th. Gueubel posted a final score of 231 (+15), while Burch and Ye matched each other at 235 (+19).
Rounding out the Pios' competitors at the event were Morgan Withington (+29), Maegan Pungsuwan (+30), Una Karen Guðmundsdóttir (+39) and Catherine Fennelly (+44).
SHU's fall slate rolls on at the Quinnipiac Classic on Monday, Oct. 13, for the first two rounds at the Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Conn.
