How It Happened:
The Pioneers started to rally in the second set this afternoon, overcoming a 25-15 loss in the first set to take the second 25-19. The two teams went back and forth over the first 14 points to sit at 7-all before a 6-1 run gave SHU a 13-8 advantage. The Big Green rallied to cut the margin to two, 15-13, before another 6-1 surge put the Pios up 21-14. The teams traded points from there, but SHU held on to take the win.
Sacred Heart rode the momentum from the second set to take a quick 3-1 lead in the third before Dartmouth evened the score at 5-5. The teams then traded runs, with the Big Green building a 19-16 advantage late. SHU was up to the task, tying the score at 19-all with a 3-0 spurt. The visitors again found themselves up late, 23-21, before the Pios fought back to knot the score at 24-24, the 24th point coming on a thrilling solo block from Roodbol. Unfortunately for SHU, back-to-back points for the Big Green propelled them to a 26-24 win.
SHU got off to a strong start to begin the fourth set, leading 7-3 after 10 points. However, Dartmouth continued to fight, taking a 13-12 advantage over the next 15 points. The lead changed multiple times from there before an 8-1 run by the visitors propelled them to a 25-21 victory in the set and a 3-1 win in the match.
