Boston, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team turned in a strong performance on Sunday at the Suffolk University Relays. The Pioneers captured three event wins, achieved multiple top five finishes, and even broke a school record.
Graduate student
Jenna Engels broke a program record in the pole vault event. Engels reached a height of 3.75m. This was good enough for a second-place finish.
Lauryn Piccirelli claimed first place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.65 meters.
Kaitlyn Caraco followed closely behind, finishing third overall.
The triple jump proved to be the Pioneers' top event of the day.
Annalise Nassy led the way, capturing first place with a mark of 11.43 meters. Sacred Heart then swept the rest of the top five, as
Kaitlyn Caraco finished second (11.35m), followed by
Ava Srinivasan in third (11.25m),
Julia Tozduman in fourth (10.96m), and
Georgia Robarts in fifth(10.92).
The Pioneers' third event win came in the weight throw, where
Suzan Adekunle delivered a dominant performance. Adekunle claimed first place with a mark of 17.75 meters, nearly two meters ahead of the second-place finisher. The throw also marked a new personal best of her collegiate career.

The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend on Saturday, January 24, as they take the short trip to New Haven, Connecticut, to compete in the Southern Connecticut State University William Sutherland III Invite.
