How It Happened:
Sacred Heart and Dominican opened the match trading points in a tight first set. Ivo Dubs got the Pioneers on the board early with a kill, and Petr Beranek followed with a swing at the net to keep things even. The score stayed close through the early stages as Armaan Dosanjh mixed in sets to both pins. Jack Chow came up with early digs to extend rallies, helping Sacred Heart stay level as the score moved into the teens.
Midway through the set, Sacred Heart began to build momentum. Dubs delivered consecutive kills to give the Pioneers a small edge, and Beranek added another point at the net. Dominican answered to close the gap, but Dosanjh kept the ball alive on multiple plays as Sacred Heart held firm. Late in the set, the Pioneers stayed steady and closed out the frame, 25–21, to take a 1–0 lead.
Dominican responded quickly in the second set, jumping out in front behind a strong run. Sacred Heart got back on the board with a point off a Dominican attack error, then Dubs followed with another kill to slow the momentum. Despite efforts from Dubs and Jack Krausz, Dominican continued to pressure the Pioneers through the middle of the set, using consistent offense to stretch the lead.
Sacred Heart battled late in the frame. Pido set up a short run with an impressive dig, and Dubs added another kill as the Pioneers tried to close the gap. Dominican, however, stayed in control down the stretch and closed the set, 25–22, to even the match.
The third set opened with both teams exchanging points. Dubs and Beranek helped Sacred Heart stay even early, while Dosanjh continued to spread the offense. The score remained tight through the opening stretch as neither side could pull away.
As the set moved forward, Sacred Heart began to take control. Austin Buchanan made his presence felt at the net with key blocks, and the Pioneers picked up points by forcing Dominican attack errors. Chow anchored the defense in the back row, keeping plays alive as Sacred Heart pulled ahead late. The Pioneers finished the set strong and took the third frame, 25–21.
Sacred Heart carried that momentum into the fourth set. Dubs opened the scoring with another kill, and Alec Niemczyk followed with a timely point to keep the Pioneers in front. Buchanan continued to slow Dominican at the net, while Chow came up with multiple digs to maintain control.
Dominican tried to rally midway through the set, but Sacred Heart answered each push. Dosanjh continued to find his hitters, and the Pioneers stayed aggressive. Late in the set, Sacred Heart stayed poised, pulling away in the final points to close out the set, 25–19, and secure the 3–1 victory.
