How it Happened
After splitting the first four points of the night event, the Bobcats went on to score seven of the next nine points to take a 9-4 lead that they would hold through the remainder of the opening set. Quinnipiac managed to slowly build upon that lead, stretching out to six at 16-10.
Sacred Heart was able to whittle away at the Bobcats lead, getting as close as three late in the set, however Quinnipiac responded by closing out the match with five of the final six points to take the 25-18 opening set win.
Coming out of the first intermission, the Pioneers opened up the second set forcing the Bobcats into back-to-back hitting errors, however Quinnipiac wouldn't go down, using a six-point rally to flip the script and take a 7-3 lead.
The Pios would slowly work the score back to even at consecutive points of 16, 17 and 18 before eventually taking a three-point lead at 22-29. The Bobcats answered that deficit by scoring three-straight to knot the score at 22 before forcing the set to a win-by-two scenario and securing the final two points for a 27-25 victory with the final point coming on a service ace.
The third set played out much the same as the second and featured a match-high of 13 ties and seven lead changes, again forced into a win-by-two scenario. After draws at one, two and three, the Pioneers scored three-straight to take a 6-3 lead, however Quinnipiac battled right back and knotted the score again at seven.
With SHU again ahead by a pair at 16-14, the Bobcats rattled off five-straight to flip the score and take a 19-16 lead. They would maintain that lead until the Pioneers scored three straight late to take a 25-24 lead, however the Bobcats fought off that set point and went on to close out the match with the final three point for an identical 27-25 win in the third.
