Sacred Heart in Second After Strong Opening Day at MAAC Championships

Yadao claims first in 1m; 800 freestyle relay breaks program record
GENEVA, OH – The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team sits in second place after Day 1 of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.
The Pioneers were led by an outstanding performance on the boards from sophomore Sinclair Yadao, who captured the MAAC title in the 1-meter dive with a winning score of 259.60. First-year standout Ryleigh Mahoney continued her impressive rookie campaign, earning a third-place finish with a score of 253.30. Kara Leahy added a fourth-place showing at 244.10, while Phifey Boyers placed seventh with a score of 221.55, giving Sacred Heart four top-seven finishes in the event.
In the pool, the Pioneers made history in the 800 freestyle relay. Sophia Velleco, Laura DeGennaro, Maeve English, and Charlotte Kaduson combined to set a new school record with a time of 7:36.00, highlighting a strong opening night for SHU.
Sacred Heart also competed in the 200 medley relay, where Emma Haas, Maggie Holland, Maddie Goret, and Sophia Velleco teamed up for a seventh-place finish.
The Pioneers return to action for Day 2 of the MAAC Championships tomorrow, with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
