Pioneers Hold Third Place After Day 2 of MAAC Championships

Sophia Velleco earned 3rd place in the 500 Free
GENEVA, OH — The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team continued its strong showing on Day 2 of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conferenec (MAAC )Championships, highlighted by a podium finish, multiple finals appearances, a school-record relay performance, and a third-place standing in the team rankings.
Sophia Velleco led the way in the 500 freestyle, earning a third-place finish in the A final to secure a spot on the podium. Charlotte Kaduson added depth with a 14th-place finish in the B final, while Laura DeGennaro placed 19th overall after competing in the C final.
In the 200 individual medley, Maggie Holland delivered a record-breaking performance in the morning prelims, setting a new school record before finishing eighth in the A final. Maddie Goret turned in a strong showing in the B final, placing 10th overall while moving into third all-time in program history with her finals swim. Daniella Palamaro rounded out the event with a 22nd-place finish in the C final.
Sacred Heart placed two swimmers in the B final of the 50 freestyle, with Emma Davis finishing 14th and Emma Haas taking 16th to contribute valuable team points.
The highlight of the evening came in the 200 freestyle relay, where Emma Davis, Kristen Baker, Sophia Velleco, and Emma Haas combined for a fifth-place finish while rewriting the program record books. The quartet touched the wall in a school-record time of 1:35.53, breaking the previous mark that had stood since 2017.
Through two days of competition, the Pioneers sit in third place overall, positioning themselves well as the championships continue tomorrow with Day 3 at 9:30 AM in Geneva.
