Pioneers win two points in Fences, but fall on raw score tiebreaker
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The No. 3 Sacred Heart University equestrian team went toe-to-toe with No. 4 College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon in a NCEA showdown, finishing deadlocked at 4–4 before falling on raw score, 812–803, at the College of Charleston Equestrian Center.
Sacred Heart picked up two points in Fences and two more in Flat, pushing the Cougars to the limit in a tightly contested matchup.
Fences
- The Pioneers earned their first Fences point when Rebecca Skelton defeated Samantha Aisengberg, riding Chad, with a score of 84–81.
- Sacred Heart added its second point of the event as Carina Muratore recorded an exciting 85–83 win over College of Charleston's Maddi Cardelli.
- The College of Charleston earned its lone Fences point on a win by Camilla Murray on Jockamo.
- The Pioneers held a raw-score edge in the event, 420–416, and secured two of the three available points.
Flat
- Sacred Heart earned two points in Flat, led by a standout ride from Kylie Hwalek, who defeated Kendra Murray with an event-high score of 87 to secure one of the Pioneers' points.
- Hwalek was later named Flat Most Outstanding Player for her performance.
- Eleese Shillingford added Sacred Heart's second Flat point, winning by a final score of 83-69.
- College of Charleston collected the remaining three points in the event behind wins from Camilla Murray, Olivia Welsh, and Lainie Rubin.
- The hosts also held the raw score advantage in Flat, 396–383.
