
Men's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Thriller to FDU

FAIRFIELD, CONN — The Sacred Heart University Men's Volleyball Team fell to the FDU Knights in a five set thriller on Saturday evening at the Pitt Center.

How It Happened:
The first set featured multiple early lead changes before FDU created late separation. Sacred Heart fought off set point and trimmed the margin to two, but FDU secured the final point to take the opener, 25–22. The Pioneers answered in the second set with improved blocking and more consistent offense, turning a tight mid-set score into a 25–21 victory to even the match.
FDU regained the advantage in the third set, holding off several Sacred Heart pushes in a back-and-forth frame. The Pioneers stayed within striking distance late, but FDU executed in the closing rallies to earn a 25–22 win and a 2–1 match lead. Facing elimination, Sacred Heart delivered a composed response in the fourth set, overcoming an early deficit with a late surge and key defensive stops to claim a 25–21 win and force a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a fitting finish, with neither side able to pull away. Sacred Heart battled back to tie the score late, but FDU capitalized on the final rallies to secure a narrow 16–14 victory and the 3–2 match win.

Mandic had a game-high 23 kills.
