Bowling Takes Fifth at 2026 Flyer Classic

The Pioneers ended the weekend with a win over No. 3 Arkansas State
LOCKPORT, Ill. – The No. 11-ranked Sacred Heart University bowling team placed fifth at the 2026 Flyer Classic, hosted by Lewis in Lockport, Ill., capping the weekend with a win over No. 3 Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers finished the event with an 8-5 overall record for a fifth-place showing. SHU was fourth after qualifying with 9,952 and a 199.0 average. In total, the Pios collected four wins in eight matches against nationally-ranked teams at the stacked event. SHU played the top three teams in the country over the weekend.
Sacred Heart began the weekend with a 3-2 mark in baker play on Friday by defeating No. 12 Wright State, Aurora, and Emmanuel. After these wins, they faced close setbacks to the hosting Flyers and No. 10 Maryville.
Building on Friday, the Pios bounced back with a 4-1 record on Saturday. SHU started with a 1020-921 win over No. 17 Tulane and, although the team fell in a close one to No. 1 Jacksonville State, 1054-1051, the Pios responded with victories over No. 13 North Carolina A&T State, Indianapolis, and Marian.
Thanks to their strong Saturday, the Pios advanced to a Sunday matchup against No. 2 Vanderbilt as the third- and fourth-ranked teams after qualifying. SHU suffered another tough loss, falling 4-3, then lost to No. 10 Maryville 4-1, before ending with a convincing 4-1 win over Arkansas State.
Leading the way for the Pios was Morgan LiCausi, as she ranked ninth in the tournament with 1,071 pins (214.20/game). She tallied 256 in Friday's opener against Tulane. Madilyn Yockel was next on the team with 1,037 pins (207.40/game), with 266 against the Green Wave.
The Pios will have a short break before resuming play on Friday, March 6, for the first of three days at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt in Smyrna, Tenn.
