Kowalski Collects First MAAC Pitcher of the Week Nod

EDISON, N.J. — For the first time this season, Sam Kowalski was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week after picking up two wins and a save in three appearances last week.

Kowalski was outstanding this week, as she went 2-0 and had a save in three appearances. The senior tallied a 1.40 ERA with 16 strikeouts, finishing the week with two complete-game victories. Kowalski started the week with a perfect seventh inning, striking out two batters on her way to a save against Hofstra. She then led the Pioneers to a series win over Canisius over the weekend. She won both of her starts with complete-game efforts. She struck out seven batters in both wins.

Kowalski was a two-time NEC Pitcher of the Week, but collects the honor from the MAAC for the first time today. The only other Pioneer to collect a MAAC weekly was Elle Leckrone, who was named a Rookie of the Week last season.

Sacred Heart next heads to Stony Brook today for a single game at 1 p.m.
