Pungsuwan led SHU in a tie for eighth
GRASONVILLE, Md. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team placed third after the second and final round of the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, hosted at the Prospect Bay Golf Club in Grasonville, Md. this weekend.
The Pios finished with a combined score of 621 (+45) after rounds of 310 and 311. SHU was tied for first after the opening round, but today's score allowed Dartmouth (+33) to jump into second. Penn (+30) claimed a wire-to-wire win. The Pioneers stayed in front of MAAC opponents Fairfield (+46), Niagara (+120) and Iona (+124).
First year Maegan Pungsuwan was the highest-finishing Pioneer in a tie for eighth. The Bradenton, Fla., native started with a 78 (+6) yesterday before carding a 76 (+4) today for a 154 (+10) final score.
Nahia Paulerena and Maite Cantu tied for 12th place with final scores of 156 (+12). Cantu got the better of Paulerena today with a score of 79 (+7) to Paulerena's 81 (+9).
Just like yesterday, Garance Gueubel and Jessie Burch finished the tournament one stroke apart. Gueubel jumped Burch to finish in a tie for 21st with a final score of 158 (+14) following a 77 (+5) today. Burch carded a 79 (+7) today to place 24th.
Rounding out SHU's competitors was Jade Haylock in a tie for 57th.
The Pios will have a short break before heading to the Rutgers Invitational on Saturday, April 11, the team's final event before the MAAC Championship.
