Four SHU golfers sit in the top 21
BAY LAKE, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team sits in third after the opening round of the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, hosted at Disney's Magnolia Course in Bay Lake, Fla.
The Pioneers own a team score of 293 (+5), one stroke behind second-place Siena (+4). SHU is only four strokes behind leading Iona (+1).
Leading the way for SHU is Mike Rothberg and Ronan Mooney in a tie for sixth place. Both golfers carded opening rounds of 72 (E). Rothberg tallied three birdies, while Mooney recorded an eagle and a pair of birdies.
Pablo Lacayo and Yu Chan Ji Lim next on the scoreboard for SHU after finishing one stroke apart. Lacayo carded a two-over 74, while Lim shot a three-over 75.
Sho Suzuki rounded out the Pios' lineup in T42nd at 79 (+7).
Round two of the MAAC Championship is slated to start tomorrow morning.
