
Softball Drops Second Game of MAAC Championship to Marist

SHU resumes play tomorrow afternoon
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University softball team and Marist brought an end to a long day of softball at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, as the Red Foxes secured an 8-3 home win just after sundown in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

How It Happened:
The Red Foxes opened the scoring in the second game today, plating one in the bottom of the first inning.
Sacred Heart answered in the top of the second, taking the lead with three runs in the inning. The scorching Elle Leckrone kicked off the scoring with a bases-loaded single following two walks and a hit. Cierra Bender was next and scored a run with a single of her own to right field. SHU's final run came off the bat of Ella Stoops.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Red Foxes hung five runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning to take an 6-3 lead. Emily Heath relieved Emily Campion in the third as she finished the game in the circle for SHU.
The next two innings went scoreless as Marist added two insurance runs in the sixth to build an 8-3 lead. A 1-2-3 seventh by the Pios settled a win for the Red Foxes.
Campion made her first postseason start and went 2.2 innings for SHU, while Heath tossed the final 3.1, allowing the two earned runs.
