Women's Golf Begins Season at Charge at Quail Valley on Monday

The two-day event begins on Sept. 14
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The moment that all Sacred Heart University women's golf fans have been waiting for has come as the Pioneers kick off the 2026-27 season on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Charge at Quail Valley, hosted by Mount St. Mary's.
The Pios are coming off a 2025-26 season that featured four top-three finishes and a pair of wins. Sacred Heart claimed the victory at both the SHU Fall and Spring Invites, the former being hosted at the Pios home course, the Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn.
Unfortunately, those strong showings did not lead to a top-three finish at the Metro Conference Championship, as the team took fourth at its second conference championship in the league. Maite Cantu tallied SHU's best finish at the event, tying for 11th after a final-round 71 (-1).
Cantu highlights SHU's returners as she made Second Team All-Metro as a sophomore and tallied the team's second-best adjusted average (78.2), an almost two-stroke improvement from her rookie season. She made the team's lineup in all 11 events, spending most of the year at the No. 1 or 2 spot.
Fellow junior Nahia Paulerena will also play a key role for the Pioneers in 2026-27. The Anglet, France, native was fourth on the team last year with a 79.8 adjusted average over 11 events. She tallied three top-10 finishes and was second on the team at the Metro Championship in a tie for 15th.
Sophomores Garance Gueubel, Jade Haylock and Morgan Withington will all have a chance to make an impact this season, as the Pioneers lost two key contributors in Jessie Burch and Maegan Pungsuwan. Gueubel took part in all 11 events as a first-year golfer, while Haylock competed in seven and Withington in five.
First year Paula De la Riva will stand as the lone newcomer to the roster this year. The A Coruña, Spain, native owns six top-10 finishes in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) qualifying events.
After the two-day Charge at Quail Valley, the Pioneers will head to the Red Bandana Invitational on Sept. 21-22 before hosting the SHU Fall Classic on Sept. 28-29. The fall slate will then transition to October, when the Pios will take part in the Yale Invitational (Oct. 3-4) and the Lady Blue Hen Invitational (Oct. 24-25), the team's last tournament of the fall.
