Elon, N.C. – A late field goal by the Phoenix was the difference as the Sacred Heart football team dropped a 24-21 decision to Elon in its second CAA game of the season. Leading the Pioneers on the evening was their junior quarterback Poochie Snyder who racked up 195 yards and three touchdowns on a 20-of-27 performance.

With the three TD's against the Phoenix, Snyder now has six scoring throws in the Pioneers first two CAA games, while his longest of the day, a 34-yard connection with Nick Gentilella also his second longest TD pass of the season.

How it Happened
After holding the Phoenix to just three yards on their opening drive, the Pioneers marched 58 yards on their second offensive possession to open up the scoring with 5:05 remaining in the opening quarter. Palmieri would open up the scoring hauling in a six-yard pass from Snyder to cap off the drive.

That 7-0 lead would hold into the second quarter, but the Phoenix didn't waste any time knotting the score at seven with a touchdown on the first possession of the frame. Elon added another score just over five minutes later for their first lead of the game at 14-7.

Snyder would strike again with 2:45 remaining before halftime, this time around finding received Ben Evee in the end zone for another six-yard score to even things up at 14. Elon would put their two-minute drill to the test and it paid off with a touchdown with 42 seconds remaining that provided a 21-14 margin going into the locker room.

The Pios defense would answer again on Elon's first drive in the second half, forcing the Phoenix to punt after a six-play, 33-yard drive. Just like they did in the first quarter, the Pioneers would answer on their first possession of the half with Snyder striking from deep this time around, finding Gentilella in the end zone from 34 yards out to knot the score at 21.

That game-tying TD came with 6:19 remaining in the third quarter and would end up being the only touchdown of the half for either team with the final points of the night coming with just 79 seconds remaining as Elon's Luke Barnes booted a 52-yard field goal to provide the final margin, 24-21.
