Benson, Vogt and King scored for the Pios in a 3-0 win

LOWELL, Mass. — Three Pioneers scored goals as the Sacred Heart University field hockey team shutout Merrimack 3-0 in the team's second straight Northeast Conference (NEC) win.

Records:
Sacred Heart: 3-6, 2-1 NEC
Merrimack: 1-8, 1-2 NEC

Leaders:
Celia Benson: 1 goal, 4 shots
Hailey Vogt: 1 goal, 3 shots
Lauren King: 1 goal, 4 shots

Of Note:
The first 15 minutes started slowly as the game went into the second quarter tied at 0-0.

SHU had a handful of good chances at the start of the game, but the Warriors held the visitors scoreless for most of the first half before the Pios finally broke through in the final 1:10 of the second period. Right before the break, Celia Benson sank a reverse chip from just inside the arc to make it 1-0 Sacred Heart at 28:50.

Out of the break, Hailey Vogt found the back of the cage just 3:33 into the third quarter to make it 2-0 SHU. At 33:33, the junior back fired a laser from the left side of the arc on a penalty corner to beat the moving goalie. Holly DeAngelo collected an assist as a corner inserter.

Lauren King iced the win for SHU in the fourth. The first year scored her second goal in four games, cleaning up a saved shot at 47:44 to seal a 3-0 win for Sacred Heart.

In cage, Brianna Cooper didn't need a save to earn her third career shutout.

The Pioneers dominated every facit of today's game, owning leads in shots (25-1) and corners (14-0).

Noteworthy:

SHU collected her second NEC win of the year.
Cooper tallied her third career shutout.
Vogt scored her second goal of the year and is up to a team-best five points.
King tallied her second goal of the year.
Benson scored her first goal as a junior.
The team tallied season highs in goals (3), shots on goal (15) and penalty corners (14).
