Barnes came to SHU in March 2020 and will have the role of Nickels Coach.
Prior to SHU, Barnes served as the Cornerbacks Coach at Assumption College in 2019. Assumption’s defense led the NE-10 in takeaways (21). Under Barnes’ tutelage Carlins Platel earned First Team All-Conference and All Region honors for the first time in his career. He also coached Second-Team All-Conference Returner Joseph Kellum to his first appearance on the list.
Barnes began his coaching career with a stint over at Holy Cross in Worcester, MA during the 2018 season. While there he served as the teams Special Teams and Defensive Quality Control. Holy Cross’ Special Team Units ranked top 10 nationally in Blocked Kicks, Kick Return yards, and Kick Return yards allowed.
Barnes received his Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies from Assumption College in 2018 where he was also a defensive back from 2014-2017.
