Garcia Holds Lead as SHU Shoots Low Score of Day Two at NEC's

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (May 5, 2012) - The Sacred Heart Pioneers, led by the tandem of senior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and junior Joshua Salah (Gloucester, MA), fired the low score of round two to sit tied for second at the 2012 Northeast Conference Champions at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach.

The Pioneers put together a team score of 300 on Saturday, moving up from fourth to tied for second with Fairleigh Dickinson at 609 after 36-holes.  SHU and FDU trail Mount St. Mary's by nine strokes heading into the final day of competition on Sunday.

Garcia continued to pace the individual field for the second day in a row after shooting his second even par round (72) of the tournament on the 6,919 yard course.  He will take a one stroke lead on the leader board into Sunday's final 18-holes, as Mount's Kevin Ellison is nipping at his heels thanks to a 72 on Saturday.  LIU Brooklyn's Josh Waters matched the two for the low round on Saturday and moved into a third place tie with FDU's Eduardo Escobar (149).

Joining the senior in the top-10 was Salah, who is part of a tie for seventh place. Salah native inked a 77 on day two brining his two-day total to 151.  Freshman Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario) took nine strokes off his Friday score, carding a 75 for a 159 through 36 holes, tied for 32nd.

The final round of the NEC Men's Golf championship will begin tomorrow, May 6, at 8:00 am.
