Johnny Kidd

Johnny Kidd is in his 21st season as a member of the Sacred Heart men's basketball coaching staff. He has been with the program since its move to the Division I level and is heavily involved with implementing defensive strategies and guard skills for the Pioneers.

In total, Kidd is a 25-year veteran of the college coaching ranks. Prior to coming to Sacred Heart, he spent four years at Western Connecticut State before two seasons as an assistant coach on the Central Connecticut State University staff.

A 1993 graduate of Central Connecticut State, Kidd was a four-year starter and two-time captain for the Blue Devils. A point guard during his heyday, he holds the Central Connecticut career assist record with 567.  He reached his single-game peak with 16 assists against Sacred Heart, sparking CCSU to a 90-72 win over the Pioneers during the 1992-93 season.  

Coaching Accomplishments

  • Since his arrival at SHU, the Pioneers have made 11 Northeast Conference Tournament appearances, including two trips to the NEC Championship game (2007, 2008)
  • He has helped build a recruiting base that has produced 12 All- NEC honors, six All-NEC Rookie selections, an NEC most improved player, and most recently, 2015-16 NEC Player of the Year Cane Broome.
