Sacred Heart Makes a Big Jump in Mid-Major Poll

The women's basketball team makes the jump to the No. 16 spot from 21st, where they were ranked in December.

The Pioneers picked up two conference wins on the road this weekend to remain undefeated in Northeast Conference play. On Saturday, they prevailed in a tough game against Robert Morris where they came back from an 18-point deficit to defeat the Colonials 71-64. Continuing the Pennsylvania road trip, on Monday, Sacred Heart dominated Saint Francis (PA). The Pioneers topped the Red Flash 85-56, the biggest margin this year.

Callan Taylor's (Overland Park, Kan.) 56.1 field goal percentage leads the league. In the win over Robert Morris, the senior lit up the board with 31 points. Point Guard Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) grabs the No. 1 spot in the league with 1.80 assists/turnovers ratio.

Sacred Heart was the only NEC team to make the Top 25 this time around. Long Island Brooklyn just missed the cut. Also receiving votes was Robert Morris.

In the first Mid-Major poll of the season, Sacred Heart was ranked 24th.

This weekend, the Pioneers will host both in-state rivals: Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Quinnipiac on Monday. Earlier this season, Sacred Heart beat both teams: CCSU 53-40, Quinnipiac 74-65. SHU is undefeated at home this season heading into the weekend, boasting a 6-0 record in the Pitt Center.
