FAIRFIELD, CONN. (September 9, 2013)--The Sacred Heart women's basketball team volunteered at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Conn. this Saturday. The team assisted in set up and preparation, as well as making the iconic balloon arch.
"The team was pumped to be able to get out and be involved in such a great community event," said Head Coach Jessica Mannetti.
Relay for Life is an organized, overnight fundraising walk where teams of people camp out around a track and take turns walking. Team members raise money for cancer research, Hope Lodge, which houses patients who have to travel long distances to receive cancer treatment, Road to Recovery, a service that provides cancer patients with transportation to and frem treatments, Look Good Feel Better, a free service that teaches women battling cancer beauty techniques to improve their image and self-esteem during chemotherapy, and Reach to Recovery, the American Cancer Society's cancer support group.
