Kristen Finnegan begins her fifth season as the Assistant Swimming Coach at Sacred Heart University during the 2022-23 campaign.
Over her five years with the Pioneers, Finnegan has helped coach all 34 student-athletes that have made their way onto SHU's All-Time Top-5 Best Times. Eight of those 34 swimmers own individual school records, to go along with three record-breaking relay teams. In addition, Finnegan also plays an integral role in coaching the team's distance and 400IM groups.
Finnegan comes to Sacred Heart from the Westport Water Rats at the Westport/Weston YMCA and served on their staff as their Associate Age Group Coach from 2012-2015. Over the last 3 years, Finnegan worked with both senior and national level swimmers who compiled five YMCA National Champions.
Finnegan was the Lead 10/Under coach and has had multiple CT Age Group Champions as well as Eastern Zone Age Group Champions. She has produced CT State and Resident Record holders.
She was selected in 2015 and 2016 as a member of the Connecticut Zone Team Coaching Staff. Finnegan was also the Assistant Girls Swim Coach at Staples High School in Westport CT from 2015-17.
Finnegan is a member of the CT Swimming's Age Group Committee and has her Level 3 ASCA Certification. She is a 2011 graduate of St. John's University with a degree in Biology.
SHU ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- She has coached 34 swimmers that are currently on SHU's All-Time Top-5 Best Times list, including eight individual school-record holders and three record-breaking relay teams.
- The Pioneers have earned CSCAA Team Academic All-America recognition every semester that Finnegan has been a part of the team.
- Help lead the Pioneers to breaking 11 school records and 4 pool records in the 2018-19 season.
- Undefeated home record in 2018-19 season at the McCann Natatorium which included 4 new pool records and 1st time victories over CCSU and LIU Post.
- Highest Point total at Northeast Conference Championship meet
