Sacred Heart Goalkeeper Chris Marchese Named Northeast Conference Player-of-the-Week

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 29, 2002) - Sacred Heart freshman goalkeeper Chris Marchese (Middletown, CT) was named Northeast Conference Rookie-of-the-Week for the week of October 22nd through October 29th.
Marchese earns Rookie of the Week kudos after recording his first career shutout in the Pioneers' 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday. Marchese piled up seven saves on the afternoon including a huge stop on a penalty kick by QU's Paul Dworak with just 45 seconds remaining in the contest as SHU earned its first win of 2002. The Middletown, CT native has emerged as a solid building block for the Pioneer program this year recording 36 saves while posting a 1.73 goals against average.
Sacred Heart returns to action Tuesday, October 29th as they play host to Colgate University in a non-conference tilt before traveling to in-state rival Central Connecticut on Friday, November 1st.
