
SHU Men's Soccer Drops 4th Straight Decision, 2-1, To St. Francis (PA)

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 6, 2002) - The St. Francis (PA) Red Flash built a 2-0 lead over Sacred Heart University and then withstood a late surge by the Pioneers to win their fourth game of 2002. SFPA got goals from sophomores Sheu Fortunato and Bernie Showers in the 2-1 win, moving them to 4-7 and 1-2 in the Northeast Conference.
Firtunato opened the score in the 40th minute hammering home a direct kick for a 1-0 lead right before half. The Red Flash made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when Showers converted a freshman midfielder Omari Aldridge. The Pioneers finally found the net in the 88th minute, as Franco Cartiera (New Britain, CT) converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the 2002 campaign.
The loss drops Sacred Heart to 0-9-2 and 0-4-1 in the NEC.
Sacred Heart will be back on Sunday, October 13th when the host Bucknell University at 2:00 pm.
