
MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS ST. FRANCIS (NY), 1-0, IN FINAL GAME OF SEASON

FAIRFIELD, CT (November 10, 2002) - The men's soccer team defeated Northeast Conference opponent, St. Francis (NY), 1-0, in the final game of the 2002 season. Playing in their final game for Sacred Heart were seniors Franco Cartiera (New Britain, CT), Jorge DeSousa (Milford, CT), Matthew Christianson (Danville, NJ), Cullen Mezerewski (Northford, CT), and Stanley Zazula (Staten Island, NY).
Scoring the game's lone goal was Cartiera, assisted by Christianson at the 59 minute mark in the game. Cartiera took the pass from Christianson and shot the ball in the right corner.
Freshman Jason Roeder (Independence, MN) made six saves in the contest for the Pioneers. In goal for St. Francis (NY) was Marcus Maurice, recording five saves.
The Pioneers close out the 2002 season with an overall record of 2-14-2, and an NEC record of 2-7-1.
