FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University women's basketball opens the 2002-03 season Friday tonight as they take on the University of Massachusetts. The Pioneers return all but one starter from last year's squad as they begin the hunt for their first Northeast Conference title. SHU senior captains Brooke Kelly, Brooke Rutnik and Ashley Durmer combined for 32 points and 15.4 rebounds a game last season in leading the Pioneers to the quaterfinals of the NEC Tournament and an 18-11 record. The Pioneers are 14-14 in season openers over the program's 28 year history.
