BOSTON, MA (September 22, 2002) - The Northeastern Huskies used three first half goals and a stifling defense to shutout the Sacred Heart men's soccer team, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers have been held scoreless in three straight contests and fall to 0-5 on the season.
The Huskies dominated the game right from the start, as they outshot the visiting Pioneers 23-5. In the 10th minute of action, Andrew Hickey lofted a long lead pass into the right corner that senior LeRoy Watkins would run down and cross in front of the net. A racing Cipriano took the cross and gave NU the only goal the Huskies would need.
Junior Bennie Prueske would tally the next two goals, to give NU a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime. The Huskies just kept firing in the second half, and Nate Houghton would benefit, picking up a loose ball rebound and hammering it home for his fourth goal of the season. Freshman Andrew Babicz wrapped up the scoring outburst, tallying his first career goal on his only shot of the game off of an assist from fellow freshman Jeff Gannon.
Sacred Heart will return to action on Wednesday, September 25, when they host Stony Brook at 4 pm.
