FAIRFIELD, CT (October 10, 2003)- The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team dropped their fifth consecutive match this afternoon by a final of 4-1.
Despite a three-goal deficit, the Pioneers tried to rally the troops for a comeback when junior Paulo Ribiero (Divinopolis, Brazil) headed home a corner kick from sophomore Tony Allegro (Enfield, CT) in the 79th minute.
Any hopes for a Pioneer comeback were dashed when Monmouth converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to seal the victory. Senior Joe Sellitto (Raritan, NJ) converted the penalty after having numerous chances earlier in the game, including a free kick that rang off the post in the first half.
Also scoring for Monmouth were sophomore Kevin Hartwyk (Turnersville, NJ), and sophomore Travis Ross (Wappinger Falls, NY) while freshman Brent Baur (Pittsgrove, NJ) added a goal and an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Arthur Satterwhite (Somerset, NJ) made four saves in the winning effort for Monmouth while sophomores Chris Marchase (Middletown, CT) and Jason Roeder (Independence, MN) split the keeping duties for Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday October 25, as they will travel to take on NEC for Long Island.
