
Men's Soccer Falls to Robert Morris 3-1

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA (October 3, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team was defeated by NEC rival Robert Morris 3-1. Junior Paulo Ribiero (Divinopolis, Brazil) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers to open the scoring at 66:13, giving them a 1-0 lead.
Jamie Dodds would answer quickly for Robert Morris as he tied the game one-minute later on a penalty kick. The Colonials took the lead when Said Ali scored the first of his two goals with just under 20-minutes remaining in the match. He would put the game away with his second goal of the match with under five minute remaining. Dodds assisted on both goals.
Tomer Chencinski made three saves in recording the win for the Colonials while sophomore Chris Marchese (Middletown, CT) made eight saves in taking the loss. The Pioneers were out shot 18-13 in the match.
The game was scoreless at the half in light of the 17 shots taken by both teams. Marchese made six of his eight saves in the first half.
The Pioneers have now lost three straight matches as their record fell to 1-5-5 overall and 0-1-2 in NEC matches. Robert Morris improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-1 in NEC contests.
The Pioneers will be back in action when they travel to St. Francis (PA) on October 5 for a 1:00 PM NEC match.
