FAIRFIELD, CT (November 2, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie in their final game of the 2003 season. Senior captains Carlos Silva (East Haven, CT) scored the lose goal for the Pioneers on a penalty kick 2:24 into the match, the last of his collegiate career.
Sacred Heart's 1-0 lead would last until the 32nd minute when Francis Ndangum buried a loose rebound to tie the game at 1-1. While both teams had plenty of scoring chances neither was able to gain an advantage on the scoreboard.
Sophomore Chris Gray (Concord, MA) made five saves in the match while his counterpart Mark Murphy made seven saves.
Prior to the game there was a brief ceremony to honor Silva. "Carlos epitomizes what the words student athlete mean for the past four years as he has grown both academically and athletically," said head coach Joe McGuigan. "We will certainly miss him next season."
