
Men's Ice Hockey Skates Past Miami, 3-2; MAAC's First-Ever Win vs. CCHA Opponent

OXFORD, OH (February 22, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team defeated Central Collegiate Hockey Association opponent Miami University, 3-2, avenging last night's loss and earning the MAAC's first-ever win over a CCHA team. Senior Les Hrapchak (Wakaw, SK) led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist.
Hrapchak opened the scoring at 16:05 in the first period from freshman Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn, MI) to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers held onto their lead through the second period.
RedHawk Greg Hogeboom capitalized on a power play just 11 seconds into the third to tie the game. Senior Michael Forsland (Anchorage, AK) gave the Pioneers the lead at 5:20 from Hrapchak. Hogeboom tallied his second of the night from Andy Greene and Mike Kompon on the power play at 11:08 to tie the score. Senior Martin Paquet (Ste. Catherine, QUE) tallied the game-winner at 13:37 from senior Konn Hawkes (Watrous, SK) and sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB).
Sophomore goaltender Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QUE) earned the win, making 43 saves. Miami goaltender David Burleigh made 18 saves.
The Pioneers return to the ice Tuesday, February 25th, as they play host to the Gaels of Iona College at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7 pm.
