FAIRFIELD, CT (September 16, 2003) - Senior goalkeeper Chris Marchese (Middletown, CT) was named the NEC Men's Soccer Player-of-the-Week for the week ending September 14. His play in goal is part of the reason why the Pioneers are currently in first place in the NEC.
Last week Marchese made eight saves against Central Connecticut, including one in overtime, as the Pioneers tied the Blue Devils 1-1 in their NEC opener. He followed that performance by making nine saves against three-time defending NEC champion Fairleigh Dickinson, including seven in the first half, and recorded his second shutout of the season as the two teams played to a 0-0 tie.
Marchese is currently ranked third in the NEC for goals against average (0.94) and in save percentage (0.839).
The SHU men's soccer team will return to action on Saturday September 20 when they take on Northeastern for a 2:00 PM match at Campus Field.
