FAIRFIELD, CT (September 5, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team played a solid game but were unable to walk away with a win as they fell to Army 1-0 in overtime. Freshman Adrian Moreno fired a deflected pass attempt from junior Lloyd Osafo into the Pioneers goal with 2:01 remaining in the first overtime period.
The Pioneers had several chances to score in regulation. Freshman Sylvester Kaar (Haward, CA) had a couple opportunities when he was one on one with Black Knights goalkeeper junior Matt Wesmiller. While he was able to beat the keeper neither shot found its way into the net as they hit either the post or the crossbar and deflected out of harms way.
Sophomore Jason Roeder (Independence, MN) made six saves in his first start of the season for the Pioneers. His counterpart, Wesmiller, made six saves, including several at point blank range, in recording the shutout for the Black Knights.
The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday September 10 when they host Central Connecticut State. Game time is 3:30 PM at Campus Field.
