HARRISONBURG, VA - James Madison University took advantage of six Sacred Heart errors to score nine unearned runs and give the Dukes a 10-2 win over the Pioneers in the final game of pool play in the JMU Softball Invitational Saturday morning.
The Dukes, 11-14, got a pair of runs in the bottom of the second thanks to two SHU errors. Junior Katie Jaworski led the inning off with a double. She scored when the Pioneers misplayed a bunt by Natalie Burd. Burd stole second and Megan Smith reached first on the second SHU error. Burd scored on an RBI single by junior Ashlee Schenk.
Sacred Heart, 3-10, got one run back in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Tiffanie Cross-Monzo that scored Jacqui Riley, who pinch ran for Caitlin Carroll after she had doubled.
JMU broke the game open with a seven-run bottom of the fourth, all but one of the runs unearned. Sophomore Briana Carrera had the loudest hit of the inning with a two-run double to right center.
The loss was the ninth straight for the Pioneers.
