
Sacred Heart Men's Soccer Releases 2004 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, CT (July 6, 2004) - Sacred Heart University head men's soccer coach Joe McGuigan announced the Pioneer's schedule for the upcoming 2004 season. The schedule is highlighted by seven matches set to take place on the friendly confines of Campus Field in Fairfield.
The Pioneers kick-off the 2004 season on Wednesday, September 1st as they travel up-state to take on the University of Hartford Hawks, a New England power year in and year out. From there the Pioneers will open the Northeast Conference portion of their schedule with a trip to New Britain, CT to face the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State.
SHU will continue its early season road trip as they travel down to Wilmington, North Carolina to take part in the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawk Soccer Classic Tournament. The Pioneers will face Jacksonville University on September 10th and the host Seahawks on September 12th.
The home portion of the 2004 slate gets underway on Tuesday, September 14th when Sacred Heart hosts Holy Cross at 3:30 pm. The Pioneers will also host the University of Maine on September 17th and Stony Brook University on September 22nd in their only non-league home matches of the year. Rounding out the non-conference portion of the schedule are road dates with Boston University on September 28th, Yale University on October 20th and Providence College on November 2nd.
In Northeast Conference play, the Pioneers will host Long Island (Oct. 8th), St. Francis (NY) (Oct. 10th), St. Francis (PA) (Nov. 5th) and Robert Morris (Nov. 7th). SHU will travel to Quinnipiac (Oct. 1st), Monmouth (Oct. 15th), Mount St. Mary's (Oct. 17th) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Oct. 24th), winners of four-straight conference titles.
The NEC Tournament will take place at the site of the regular season champion. The top four teams in the league will qualify with an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament at stake.
