Fairfield, CT - Junior Becky Ford (Salem, NH) scored a goal and added an assist as the Sacred Heart field hockey team won their last home game of the season, 4-0, over Seton Hill University Monday at Campus Field.
Sophomore Danielle Vasely (Hopewell Junction, NY) got things started early for the Pioneers who controlled the entire game offensively. Vasely scored her first goal of the year on a tip-in following a shot by junior Jenna McLane (Stowe, VT) at the 17:40 mark of the first half.
Sophomore Katie Bohren (Hopewell Junction, NY) who propelled the Pioneers to Sunday's win over Robert Morris, scored with 10 minutes left in the first half to put the Pioneers up 2-0. For Bohren, it was her third goal of the year, and third goal in as many games.
The Pioneers continued the onslaught in the second half. Senior Nicole Falco (Ocean, NJ), playing her final game at Campus Field, scored off a pass from Ford at the 47:11 mark.
Ford capped the scoring with about 20 minutes to go with her team leading 8th goal of the season. Junior Sarah Yeaton (Hampton, NH) was credited with the assist.
Sacred Heart would have scored several more goals if not for solid play in net by Griffin goaltender Meredith Benson, who made 17 saves.
In all, the Pioneers out shot the Griffins 35-8 for the game. Junior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) led all players with 10 shots for Sacred Heart.
Pioneer goaltender Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH) needed to make only four saves for her sixth shutout of the year. She has allowed only one goal in her last four games.
The Pioneers (8-9, 5-2 NEC) finish the regular season Sunday when they visit Monmouth. Game time is 1:00 pm.
