Pioneers Score Seven Unanswered, Top Hamilton

Milford, CT - Sophomore Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) and freshman Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) each scored two third period goals, as the Pioneers scored seven unanswered goals, including six in the final frame, en route to a 7-2 win over Hamilton at Milford Ice Pavilion Friday night.

Junior Zoe Baldwin put the Continentals on the board first just 22 seconds into the second period. After taking a long pass from Julie Haney, Baldwin moved in a slipped a backhand shot past Pioneer goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) for her first goal of the season. Hamilton went up 2-0 five minutes into the period when Jane Bradley tipped-in a rebound shot for her first goal of the season.

The Pioneers got on the board with 10 seconds left in the second when freshman Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) converted on a shorthanded opportunity. After taking a pass from senior Nicole Farrelly (Windsor, CT), Arnone slipped a shot past Continental goaltender Caitlin Conelly. It was Arnone's 7th goal, tying her for the team lead, momentarily.

The Pioneers would tie the game just 13 seconds into the third period. With senior Jane Auxier (Palm Beach, FL) still serving the penalty which Arnone scored shorthanded on, McLaughlin pounded home a wrap-around shot to tie the game.

McLaughlin put the Pioneers ahead for good 4:30 into the third when she poked home a rebound shot during a Pioneer power play. After Arnone's intital attempt was stopped, McLaughlin was there to put away her second goal of the night and fourth of the season.

Senior Jessica Felt (Killingworth, CT) scored the Pioneers second power play goal of the night less then two minutes later. Farrelly blasted a shot from the blue line that Felt deflected past Conelly for her second goal of the game. Farrelly recorded her second assist of the night in her first game back after an injury.

Dziama capped off a 12 minute span where the Pioneers scored four goals when she scored off a pass from Felt. Just 1:29 later, Dziama blocked a shot by Hamilton's Kristina Carroll, and went the length of the rink for her second goal of the night. Arnone would finish the scoring with her team high eighth goal of the year with 3:40 left in the game.

The Pioneers outshot the Continentals 37-34 for the game. Conelly made 30 saves for Hamilton while Boulay stopped 32 shots in the victory.

The Pioneers and Continentals will face off again Saturday afternoon at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The puck drops at 2:00 pm.
