Hamilton Scores Three in Third, Edges Pioneers

Nov. 19, 2005

Final Stats

Milford, CT - Junior Zoe Baldwin scored with 2:07 left in regulation as the Hamilton Continentals scored three goals in the third period to defeat Sacred Heart 4-3 in women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at Milford Ice Pavilion. The loss snapped the Pioneers (3-7-2) four game unbeaten streak and was the Continentals (1-1-0) first victory of the season.

Baldwin's game winning goal was a single-handed effort. After picking up a loose puck at center ice, she took the puck the length of the ice, switching to her backhand at the last moment to slide the puck past Pionner goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK).

Freshman Kristina Feltz (Edison, NJ) put the Pioneers up 1-0 on a power play goal 4:08 into the game. Feltz was in front of the net to deflect a shot by defense partner Jane Auxier (Palm Beach, FL) past Continental goaltender Kathryn Manning for her second goal of the season.

The Pioneers went up 2-0 when junior Michelle Panella (Marlboro, NJ) scored her eighth goal of the season 1:31 later. After taking a pass from freshman Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ), Panella moved in a flipped a shot past Manning to give her a tie for the team lead in scoring temporarily

Hamilton cut the Pioneer lead in half with 5:28 remaining in the first when sophomore Taylor Brady scored her first goal of the game. After Pioneer goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) made two saves on Brady and sophomore Jodi Raymond, Brady was on the doorstep for the rebound goal.

Arnone would reclaim the goal scoring lead halfway through the second period when she pounded home her ninth goal of the season. After Manning stopped the first shot by sophomore Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA), Arnone was there to put away the rebound and give the two goal lead back to the Pioneers.

The Hamilton comeback began at the 6:35 mark of the third period. Just as a 5-on-3 Continental power play ended, sophomore Jodi Raymond put home a shot in the midst of traffic in front of the Pioneer net to make the game 3-2. The Continentals tied the game with 11 minutes left when junior Julie Haney scored on a rebound after a shot by junior Emma Griffth.

The Continentals outshot the Pioneers 33-31 for the game, including a 14-6 advantage in the final period. Freshman Kathryn Manning made 28 saves in her first start of the season, while Boulay made 29 saves for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers are off next weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday. They return to action on Friday, December 2nd, when they welcome St Anselm to Milford Ice Pavilion at 7:00 pm.
