
Pioneer Men's Soccer Announces 2005 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, CT (June 23, 2005) - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team and head coach Joe Barroso have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2005 season. The Pioneers will open the year at the Wisconsin-Green Bay Nike Classic and also take on nationally ranked Connecticut for the first time.
The Pioneers will face Bowling Green on the first day of the UW-Green Bay tournament on September 3rd. SHU will face the host Phoenix on September 4th to kick-off the 2005 season. Three road trips to Providence, September 8th, Holy Cross, September 14th, and Maine, September 16th, are next on tap as Sacred Heart gets ready for a competitive Northeast Conference slate.
The home portion of the 2005 schedule gets underway on Wednesday, September 21st when the Pioneers host the University of Hartford at 2:00 pm. From there, SHU hits the road for four games before returning home in mid-October. The Pioneers will take a trip up-state to face the University of Connecticut for the first time in program history on September 28th. The Huskies finished last season ranked 22nd nationally.
The Northeast Conference schedule gets underway after the UConn game with the Pioneers heading out to western Pennsylvania. SHU will face Robert Morris on October 7th and St. Francis-PA on October 9th. The road trip concludes with their final non-conference game of the year October 11th at Army.
Sacred Heart returns home and to conference play on October 14th facing Mount St. Mary's. Monmouth pays a visit to Campus Field on October 16th and the Pioneers will close out the regular season with three games at home against Fairleigh Dickinson (October 30th), Quinnipiac (November 4th) and Central Connecticut (November 6th). Sandwiched in-between are a pair of road games in Brooklyn, NY against St. Francis-NY (October 21st) and Long Island (October 23rd).
The NEC Tournament will take place on November 11th and 13th at the site of the highest seed. The top four teams in the league will qualify with an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament at stake.
