Lock Haven Edges Pioneers

Sept. 30, 2005

Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - A furious late game comeback by the Pioneers fell just short as sophomore Samantha Stoyer scored the game winning goal with just under 8 minutes remaining, and Lock Haven hung on to beat Sacred Heart 3-2 Friday at Campus Field.

Junior Sarah Huber got the Eagles on the board first when she took Renee Kemmerer's pass and put it past Pioneer goaltender Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack). Lock Haven would control the play much of the game, but only led 1-0 at halftime thanks to solid play in goal by Del Greco, who made 12 saves overall.

The Eagles scored again 15 minutes into the second half when Jennifer Churetta scored her second goal of the season off a penalty corner.

With 10 minutes left in the game, Pioneers coach Chris Blais called a time out and after that the Pioneers started to come back. Only minutes after the timeout, freshman Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown) tipped in Jenn Howley's (North Salem, NY/North Salem) pass to make it 2-1. However, just two minutes later, Stoyer took a pass from Blair Wynne and scored to give the Eagles back the two goal lead.

Sophomore Katie Bohren (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) scored her first goal of the year on a pass from Eye with two minutes left and it looked like the Pioneers might have one last gasp. But it went for naught, as Becca Yerkes made five saves in goal to cement the victory for the Eagles.

The loss snapped the Pioneers four game winning streak. They now have a record of 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the NEC. The Pioneers close out their four game home stand on Sunday against conference foe Rider. Game time is 2:30 pm.
