Final Stats

Kingston, R.I. - A second half Pioneer comeback fell just short as Sacred Heart fell to the University of Rhode Island 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

Senior Nicole Falco (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) and junior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) each netted goals for the Pioneers but it wasn't enough to overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit

Rhode Island junior Morgan Crossman got the Rams off to an early lead when she scored one minute and 16 seconds into the game. It was Crossman's first goal of the season.

Jamie Adams who was there with the assist to Crossman increased the Rams lead, 2-0, six minutes later with her third goal of the season. Adams led URI with three shots (2 SOG), one goal and one assist.

With less than three minutes left in the half Rams freshman Christine Kazmierski scored her first goal of the season off a fast break pass from Adams.

"I am proud of the way we came out strong in the first half," said Rams head coach Stacey Bean. "Sacred Heart is a tough, physical team."

Sacred Heart came out in the second half and scored its first goal at the 36:54 mark. Falco found the back of the goal off a corner pass from Sarah Yeaton.

Carney added goal number two for the Pioneers on a penalty shot ten minutes later.

The Pioneers, now 0-4 on the season, will look for their first win when they open the home portion of the schedule Wednesday night against Boston College. The game will take place at Yale University in New Haven and is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
