Final Stats
Bridgeport, CT -
Sophomore Allie Gillman (Montreal, QC) scored the only goal of the game 4:21 into the second period and Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) made 18 saves for her first shutout of the season as Sacred Heart held on for a 1-0 win over Connecticut College in women's ice hockey action Tuesday night at the Wonderland of Ice.
The Pioneers scored the only goal of the game when Sarah Hickman (Amherst, MA) carried the puck behind the net and Gillman set up in the slot. Hickman fed a perfect centering pass out in front to Gillman who pounded the puck through the pads of Camels goaltender Lauren Mellen for her first goal of the season.
Sacred Heart had other chances to add to its lead but got unlucky a couple of times. Sophomore Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) got stone-walled twice on breakaways and Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) hit the cross-bar on a breakaway in the third period. The Pioneers controlled most of the play offensively, out shooting Connecticut College 31-18. Mellen made 30 saves to keep the Camels in the game.
The Pioneers close out the first half of the season Saturday at Boston University. Face-off is set for 3:00 pm.
