
Men's Volleyball Falls to Rutgers-Newark in Three

Newark, NJ - Junior outside hitter Eric Honsberger (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Central HS) had 13 kills, hitting .545 with just one error, as Rutgers-Newark overpowered Sacred Heart, 30-16, 30-25, 30-23 in a non-conference men's volleyball match in The Golden Dome.
Freshman opposite Barry Smith (Shelton, CT) led the Pioneers (0-5) with 11 kills, two aces, a solo block and four assisted blocks. Junior setter John Breen (North Andover, MA/St. John's Prep) tallied 29 assists to go along with four kills. Junior outside hitter Brian Rosa (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Ward Mellville) and senior opposite Alex Catani (Larkspur, CA) had seven kills apiece.
The Scarlet Raiders (5-7) hit .293 for the match to the Pioneers' .009.
Senior middle Brian Honsberger (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Central) posted eight kills, a solo block and four assisted blocks for Rutgers-Newark while freshman outside hitter Derek Wolfe (Orlando, FL/Timbercreek) chipped in seven kills and an ace. Senior libero Andrew Pink (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) had a match-high 10 digs.
Sacred Heart will host New Haven in an EIVA Hay match on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
