McDonough Named NEC Softball Rookie of the Week

Fairfield, CT - Pioneer freshman softball pitcher/infielder Ashley McDonough (Lompoc, CA/Lompoc) has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of March 20th-26th.
McDounough led the Pioneers with a .420 batting average in the UMBC Tournament over the weekend. Her performance included three doubles and two home runs. She piled up eight hits, scoring five runs and driving in five more in the process. In addition to her offense, McDonough was also a force on the mound for the Pioneers. Against St Francis (NY), she allowed just two earned runs and three hits, while striking out five batters, as the Pioneers rallied for a 4-3 win in nine innings.
The Pioneers will play five doubleheaders this week. First, they visit Boston College on Tuesday and Boston University on Wednesday. Sacred Heart will open Northeast Conference play Friday afternoon at Long Island before visiting Iona on Saturday. The Pioneers close out the weekend with their home opener against Yale on Sunday.
